Recent advances in the fields
of multimedia and image computing are beginning to show how valuable these
technologies can be, especially when applied to business, industrial and
health-care communities under the auspices of office automation, document
analysis, geographical information systems, diagnostic imaging, and computer-aided
design and manufacturing
The Hong Kong Society for Multimedia and Image Computing (HKSMIC) was established
in November, 1992 as a non-profit organisation. The main objective of the
Society is to promote and to advance the theory and practice of multimedia
and image computing in Hong Kong. We hope to achieve this objective through
organising conferences, seminars, workshops and providing a forum for practitioners
and academics to exchange views and experience.
The Society has been elected as a member of the International Association
of Pattern Recognition (IAPR), a major international organisation for image
computing which includes image analysis, computer graphics and related topics.
It is hoped that the Society will become a focal point for all practitioners,
academics, users, and vendors working in the field of multimedia and imagecomputing
in Hong Kong.
